Ingredients

  • 1 package dry yeast
  • 1/4 cup warm water
  • 2 1/2 cups flour
  • 1/2 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1/8 cup sugar
  • 1/2 cup shortening
  • 1 cup buttermilk
  • 1 tablespoon Smitty Bee Honey per biscuit

Directions

Let yeast dissolve in warm water and set it aside. Mix all dry ingredients as listed. Cut shortening into the dry mixture as you would do for pie dough. Stir in the buttermilk and yeast mixture. Blend thoroughly. The dough can be refrigerated or can be kneaded lightly. After removing the dough from the refrigerator, let it rise at room temperature. Roll it out on a floured board. Cut out the biscuits with a biscuit cutter. Place biscuits in a greased pan and allow the dough to rise a little before baking. Bake 10 min in oven at 400°F. Remove pan from oven and coat each biscuit in one tablespoon of Smitty Bee Honey. Return biscuits to oven for an additional 2 to 4 minutes. After removing from the oven, allow biscuits to cool. Eat whole or slice and eat with butter, jam, and/or more honey! Remaining dough may be refrigerated and baked another time.
